21st Century Community Learning Centers (21CCLC) is a U.S. Department of Education program, administered by the states, that supports out-of-school-time learning opportunities for students in high-poverty, low-performing schools. The Iowa Department of Education administers 21CCLC funding in Iowa through annual competitive grant competitions. 21CCLC programs focus on academic achievement (helping students meet state and local standards in core academic subjects), academic enrichment (providing activities that complement learning from the school day), and family engagement (offering literacy and other educational services to the families of participating students).
The Iowa Afterschool Alliance is under contract with the Iowa Department of Education to support the federal network of grantees receiving 21st Century Community Learning Centers funds. The Iowa Afterschool Alliance supports a peer learning community so that all grantees learn from one another and are providing the best service to Iowa's children, youth, and families through before school, after school, and summer programming.
